TO CLARIFY: Use of the headgasket should be OEM, MLS style gasket. NOT Single layer. You can still be pushed a single layer and you do not want that style. You can also use the Turbo MLS gasket on a EJ253…which is typically what is recommended.

This is no longer a problem with the newer Subarus.
WRONG!! Subaru still sells the problem gaskets, believe it or not. You want to avoid the single layer gaskets with a GRAPHITE COATING. The graphite coating is what’s failing. Stick with an MLS (multi-layer steel) head gasket.
