V-Belt Code Guide | Spec. Sense

In this episode of Spec. Sense, Vance explains the meaning behind v-belt codes. You’ll learn how to read v-belt numbers, to measure a belt and use the belt codes to find an exact match. This video covers the 3 main types – Classical Belts, Fractional Horsepower (FHP) Belts and Deep Wedge (Narrow) belts.
Proper belt sizing is essential for the performance, and lifespan on the belt. Each code refers to a specific top width and depth, and each size is rated for a specific load.

**Update** – The depth for for “A” belts at 2:21, “AX” belts at 2:32 and “4L” belts at 3:24 belts is actually 5/16″ . . . . the 3/16″ shown in the video is a typo.

  1. *Update* The depth for for “A” belts at 2:21, “AX” belts at 2:32 and “4L” belts at 3:24 belts is actually 5/16″ (not the the 3/16″ as mentioned).
The width for Deep V 4:15 at 3V and 3VX belts are 3/8″ or 9.5mm wide ( not 1/2″ wide as mentioned)
Unfortunately this can’t be changed without deleting and re-uploading the video which is why this update is pinned here.

  2. The deep belt section is wrong. Labels the 3V belt as 1/2 inch wide. It’s supposed to say 3/8 inch wide.

  3. I’m trying to find a replacement belt for an old Dayton belt and having tons of trouble, can you help? The number printed on the belt is 37320 S(possibly 5)6013, so 37320 S6013 or 37320 56013. The numbers on the belt do not follow any of the explanation in your video. It’s a very old belt so any help on how to interpret the part number is greatly appreciated. The belt is a cogged v belt 7/8″ wide at the top. Thank you.
